The Rákóczi Well

(or Hungarian Well)

The well named after Franciscus II Rákóczi is situated at the northern entrance of the Tekel Spirit Factory. According to the written sources, Gregorie De Kesekab, a French consul of Hungarian origins, financed a renovation and enlargement of the well on 17th February 1892. The marble memorial has Ottoman and Latin inscriptions as follows:

In the memory of Franciscus Rákóczi, King of Transylvania, ally and friend of Sultan Ahmet Salis and Sultan Mahmut, who was permitted to settled here by the mercy of those Above.
