Memorial House of Imre Thököly and Ilona Zrínyi in Kocaeli/Izmit

The memorial house and its exhibition, created by the Hungarian National Museum and managed by the Municipality of Kocaeli, was founded in November 2008 in the former engineer’s accomodation building of a closed paper factory called “Seka Park” by the locals, in the Izmit part of Kocaeli. The memorial house features the bronze statuette of Imre Thököly, created by Lajos Győrfi, as well as Sándor Györfi’s bronze embossment of Ilona Zrínyi. The tomb of Imre Thököly, renovated in 2015, is located in the garden of the institution. Beside it, there is a wooden ‘seclar gate’ since 2014. This was gifted by the Seclar delegation to Istanbul, led by Tibor Beder, to Erdal Şalikoğlu, founding president of the Hungarian Cultural and Friendship Association in Istanbul. The Imre Thököly Friendship Association of Izmit and its president, Ertunç Baykal (who passed away in 2017) had significant contributions to the establishment of the memorial house.
